What is Human Trafficking?

It's the illegal trade of human beings. It's the use, control, exploitation, and recruitment of people for their bodies. This happens through force, fraud, and coercion. People of all genders, age, and race are being bought and sold against their will. (A21, 2018)

How Many are Affected?

The International Labour Organization has estimated that there are 40.3 million victims of human trafficking in the world. ILO also estimates that trafficking is a $150 billion industry worldwide. 81% of victims are trapped in forced labor, 25% of them are children, and 75% of them are women and girls. (Polaris Project, 2018)

Where Does it Happen in the U.S?

Human trafficking and sexual exploitation happens all over the nation. California (1,305), Texas (792), and Florida (604) received the largest number of reported cases. There are millions of slaves all around the world, only 1% of those victims are ever rescued. (Human Trafficking Search, 2018) (A21, 2018)
